A bunion is the protrusion of the bone at the base of the big toe where it attaches itself to the rest of the foot. This flower is known as marigold too. It is anti-inflammatory and helps in reducing the pain and swelling in a bunion. Crush some calendula leaves and apply its juice to the affected area and leave for a while. Continue this remedy for a few days, repeating 2-3 times daily.

Epsom Salt

Epsom salt has high levels of magnesium that helps in balancing pH levels in the body and thus reduces pain. For bunions developed due to arthritis, take a tub of warm water and add a handful of Epsom salt to it. Soak the feet for 1/2 hour and then dry the feet and massage with olive oil or coconut oil. Repeat this therapy 3 times a week to help reduce inflammation in the foot.

Foot exercises reduce the growth of a bunion and promote foot flexibility. Sit on a chair and put the affected foot on the thigh of the other leg. Roll a tennis ball beneath the mould of the big toe and under all other toes. Repeat for a while and roll the ball over the sole areas too. Stand erect and point your toes for 10 seconds. Then curl the toes for next 10 secs. Repeat for a while till comfortable. Doing these exercises improves the flexibility and strengthens the toe muscles which controls the progression of the bunion and does not allow the problem to worsen.

Chamomile is known to reduce bunions in size if applied and used regularly. Chamomile tea can be drank warm several times a day to reduce the pain and inflammation in the body. Chamomile tea bag can be used as a warm compress and quickly gives relief from pain and swelling. Massage the affected area with chamomile essential oil to reduce inflammation in the bones.

It is anti-inflammatory and its main compound curcumin, has pain relieving properties which help in pulling out all the pain and thus reduces discomfort. Take some olive oil and mix in 1/2 a tsp turmeric in it. Apply this paste over the affected area to relieve the pain and swelling.

An ice pack massage is very soothing and instantly relieves the pain in the foot. Take an ice compress or put some ice cubes in a towel and roll the towel over the bunion. This mechanism numbs the nerves and reduces the inflammation, making the patient feel better.

Heat some castor oil and dip a cotton cloth in it. Apply this cloth over the bunion and cover it with another cloth. This helps in alleviating pain quickly and fast.
