1. Baking Soda:

Baking soda or sodium bicarbonate is effective in providing relief from the unpleasantness caused due to acid reflux and heartburn. Being a base substance, the pH of baking soda is more than 7.0. In order to get relief, the stomach needs acid to be neutralized; this is effectively done by soda bicarbonate. Mix thoroughly half a teaspoon of soda in a glass of water and drink it. If required, keep drinking for 4 to 5 times a day, for relief from acidity. However, if the issue persists, stop its intake and seek medical assistance. The prolonged consumption of baking soda has its own side effects due to the high content of salt in it.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar:

Sometime you need to counter the effects of acidity with more acids. The burning sensation in the esophagus can be neutralized with the ingestion of acidic food like apple cider vinegar. In fact, it is the insufficient quantity of acids in the digestive system that can trigger an acid reflux. It intimates the LES or lower esophageal sphincter to tighten it, which leads to heartburn and acid reflux. Apple cider vinegar, in the rawest and most unrefined form can be quite effective in providing relief in such circumstances. Mix one and half tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it thrice a day, ten minutes before meals. However, if it does not help, stop its intake and seek medical intervention.

3. Banana:

Banana is a natural antacid which helps in bringing down the burning sensation and discomfort caused due to acid reflux. Eating a ripe banana every morning is the easiest way to ward off the effects of acid reflux. It also induces bowel movement and provides relief from constipation, which keeps the digestive track clean and keeps acidity and gas formation at bay.


4. Mustard:

Mustard is alkaline in nature and contains mild vinegar. Due to its bitter taste, you may not love consuming it. However, the effect it has on acid reflux is worth it. The alkaline properties of mustard are counterintuitive on the acids that are responsible for the condition.


5. Almonds:

Eating almonds after every food intake helps in reducing the chances of acid reflux. Not only are they tasty, they can also work as an alternative snacking option, while supplying the body with lots of nutrition. However, avoid ingesting too many almonds. In case you are eating them multiple times, have one or two pieces only at a time.
