5 Refreshing DIY Astringents For Toning The Skin

Astringents should form an important part of our daily beauty regime and it helps in toning the skin, remove oiliness of the skin and close open pores. It discourages sebum production and is often used to clear the forehead, nose and chin area that could boast of excess oil. Simple homemade items can be used to make these astringents and chemical-laced astringents might strip off the natural oils of the skin and make it dry and dull.

Here Are 5 Refreshing DIY Astringents For Toning The Skin

1. Honey Water

Honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that reduce the instance of breakouts in the skin. Rose water is a cooling agent and spices add their benefits to the toner. Lemon peels are rich in vitamin C and help in toning the skin.

Honey Water

Ingredients:

2 tab honey

2 tab coriander seeds

2 tab nutmeg

1 tab cloves

4 tabs grated lemon peels

8 tab alcohol

4 tabs rose water



4 tab orange flower water

1/2 tsp benzoin

1/2 teaspoon storax

air tight jar

Method:

Mix all the above ingredients in the air tight jar and keep for a week, shaking from time to time. Within a week, the herbs and spices must have infused their components into the water, strain the infusion and it is now ready for use.

2. Rosemary Water

Rosemary is an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial in nature and can increase the blood circulation and enliven the skin. It helps in combating the free radicals that can harm the skin surface. It can tone and firm the skin texture and effectively cleanses the skin removing excess oils that clog the pores. Mint, witch hazel, rose water are all refreshing and tone the skin well.

Rosemary Water

Ingredients:

2 tab rosemary

the peel and pith of 1/4 orange

peels and pith of 1/4 lemon

4 sprigs mint

1/4 cup witch hazel

1/2 rose water

Method:

Mix all items in a glass jar and let it stand for 2-3 days. Strain the liquid and use it as an astringent as many times a day as required.

3. Lemon Astringent

Lemon contains vitamin C and is a natural astringent for the skin. It protects the collagen of the skin, tones, cleans and controls the excessive oiliness of the skin.

Ingredients:

4 tab lemon juice

1/2 tsp peppermint extract

8 tab witch hazel

2 tab alcohol

Method:

Mix all the ingredients and keep in an airtight glass jar for a day. Strain and use for an oily skin care regime.

4. Camphor Astringent

Camphor has a strong aromatic flavor with inflammatory properties and minty effects. It can fight bacteria, maintain pH balance of the skin, reduce sebum secretion and control the oiliness of the skin. It can clear up blemishes with regular use and act as an effective toner.

Camphor Astringent

Ingredients:

1 tsp camphor crystals

1/2 cup rose water

1/2 cup witch hazel

1/2 cup distilled water

Method:

Add all the above items to a glass jar and mix thoroughly. Now strain and use this liquid as an astringent. This recipe is effective against large pores and sebaceous glands. It can be used as an after shave lotion also.

5. Vodka Strawberry Astringent

Feel the cooling effect and richness of strawberries in this vodka based astringent.

Vodka Strawberry Astringent

Ingredients:

4-5 strawberries

a jar of vodka

Method:

Keep the strawberries in a jar and cover with vodka. Cover with lid and keep inside the refrigerator. Shake 1-2 times every day for 4 days. Now strain the liquid and use it as an astringent to get rid of an oily and acne prone skin. Can be kept in the refrigerator.
