5 Yoga Poses To Cure Headache

Headache can occur due to a number of reasons, which includes stress, anxiety or diet factors. Though there are many over the counter medicines available to treat headache, there are several yoga postures which are equally effective in treating headache. Those who suffer from regular headache or migraine like conditions, should practice yoga on a regular basis to get rid of the problem. Here are some of the most effective yoga poses, which helo in curing headache and offers quick relief.

How To Cure Headache With Yoga

Crane Pose

A smart exercise which reduces stress, reduces anxiety and removes headache caused due to exhaustion, tiredness or stress. Start by standing on floor, as you keep your back straight. As you exhale, you need to slowly bend forward and touch your feet. You can keep your hands on floor, right in front of feet. As you exhale and with a bit of jerking, you will lift the left leg from floor. You will slowly fold from knees and rest the left knee on the outer area of left arm. Maintain your balance in this position and start to lift the right leg and fold it on the right knee on its outer side. You will look straight in front. Relax and stay in this position for at least a minute. This helps in stimulating your cells and removes headache.

A very popular yoga pose which is also known as kapala bhati. It works on the entire nervous system, helps in treating headache like conditions, head heaviness and anxiety. This is basically a breathing exercise which is done through the nose. You need to exhale through nose and inhale too, creating a strong contraction in lower belly which helps in pushing out air from lungs. Inhaling is passive and is just as a response to release of contraction, which draws air in lungs. You need to do at least 25 cycles and repeat this practice three times in a day. It will increase concentration and improve your memory.

This yoga posture helps in treating consistent headache, often caused due to poor diet and unhealthy lifestyle. Start by standing on floor. Keep your back straight. You will then stretch your hands upwards in air and then again bring them down slowly. You will then fold your left leg from your knees. Next, you will place your feet on the inner section of your right thigh. You will be looking straight. Join the palms and get into a prayer like position. Your palms shall be right in front. Keep your eyes closed. Relax and count 10, as you breathe slowly. This posture works on the whole nervous system and cools the mind.

Alternate Breathing

This yoga exercise helps in strengthening nerve currents, thereby treating nerves which cause headache. The brain works to restore conditions of memory loss, calms the nervous system and improves concentration. Start by sitting comfortably, keeping your legs crossed. Your will keep your fist loose. Keep your right arm against the chest. You will then close the right nostril using your right thumb. Exhale as much as you can. You will then again inhale from your left nostril, as you keep your left nostril closed with thumb. Repeat this alternate breathing and count till 8.

Reclining Hero Pose

This yoga posture is ideal for those hectic days when you simply need to freshen up your mind and release your brain from all worries and tension. Start in the sitting position – you will kneel down and sit comfortably on your heels. With a bit of jerk, you will bend your body a bit back, till your head touches the floor. Your hands will be on floor and a bit away from the body. Your palms shall be up. You will rest your head on any side of your body. If this gets difficult, you can position your head in center. Keep your eyes closed.

Fish pose helps in improving blood circulation throughout the body which helps in curing headache or migraine like condition. It helps in improving memory and builds concentration while relaxing the mind. Start by lying down flat on floor. Your body weight should be shifted to elbow and forearms and try to be comfortable. Inhale and slowly arch the head back towards the floor. You can exhale and then breathe again. Your feet should be straight on floor. Your head will be lowered to floor. Your arms shall be pressed in the floor. You need to stay in this position for a minute. If done regularly, it has tremendous power to cure all forms of headache in a short time.
