Apple cider vinegar seems to be the miracle remedy for almost anything on the face of this Earth. It is great for hair care too, and it not only balances the pH of the skin, but is antimicrobial and can control scalp problems, strengthen hair follicles, and bring back life to dull and lifeless hair.
Let Us Explore The Uses Of Apple Cider Vinegar For The Hair-
1. Adds Shine And Volume To The Hair
Apple cider can be used as a last rinse to the hair to add shine and bounce to dull and lifeless hair. Take 1/4 of ACV and add equal amounts of water to it. Keep it aside. Now, shampoo the hair, as usual, taking care not to use very hot water as it makes the hair look dry and dull. After the shampoo, pour the rinse over the hair and spread it evenly over the whole scalp and from the roots to the tips. Leave this mix on the hair for 10 minutes. Now rinse the hair and dry it. By the time the hair dries, it feels softer to touch and much more silky and shiny. This regime can be followed 2 times a week. For oily hair, the vinegar can be increased to 1/2 tsp more and for dry hair, reduced respectively.
2. Deep Conditions The Hair
Adding some honey to the apple cider rinse will further help in making the hair soft and shiny and will also deeply nourish and condition the hair. Add a few drops of oil like the coconut oil, almond oil, or olive oil to this last rinse of vinegar for better hair conditioning. Dry and frizzy hair tends to soften and get tamed using this method. Herbs are soothing for the senses, great to smell and they also add their nutrients to the hair scalp. Make the vinegar rinse and pour it into a pan. Add a tab of dried herbs like sage, rosehip, lavender, rosemary, etc. Cook this for 10 minutes and cool. Strain the mix and now use it as a last rinse.Essential oils added to the vinegar rinse will not only enhance the rinse benefits but also do away with the smell of vinegar. Lavender has a great smell. Tea tree is effective for dandruff, and lemon grass can mask the vinegar stench. 5-10 drops of essential oil added to the rinse is sufficient.
3. Detangles Hair
ACV used as a last rinse for the hair helps in managing it better while combing. The hair smoothens and gets detangles easily which controls hair breakage.
4. Controls Dandruff
Mix 1 part of ACV with 3 parts of warm water and apply to the scalp. Wash off after 10 minutes or leave overnight for better results. Vinegar is anti-fungal and also controls sebum production on the scalp. It balances the Ph levels to create an environment unsuitable for dandruff to thrive. Use this remedy once or twice a week to get rid of dandruff.
5. Controls Psoriasis Symptoms
Psoriasis causes dry, flaky and itchy skin and a mix of ACV in 3 times water can be applied and left on the hair for 15 minutes. Rinse thereafter to relieve itching and bacterial build up in the scalp.
6. Controls Grey Hair
Though there is no definite evidence against this therapy, but drinking a glass of warm water in which 1 tsp apple cider is mixed with a few drops of honey, helps in reversing grey hair. More studies are required to establish facts.
7. Controls Hair Fall
There can be a number of contributors to hair fall. Nutrition, age, hormones, scalp infections and more. Drinking ACV in warm water regulates the body functions like hormonal imbalances and cholesterol that could be leading to hair fall. Apple cider can be mixed in the hair oil for better results as massaging improves blood circulation and helps the nutrients to reach deep down to the hair roots and provide nutrition.
8. Cleans And Clarifies The Hair
Styling products and pollutants can lead to a residual build up in the hair and make it greasy, oily, lifeless and prone to infections. ACV is very handy for these problems and helps to clean the hair and the scalp thoroughly, leaving behind no residue and the hair feels nice and clean.
9. Faster Hair Growth
Massaging the hair with an ACV mix or rinsing the hair with an ACV mix increases the acidity level of the hair and helps better absorption of nutrients and moisture. It seals the cuticles of the hair and aids in absorbing and maintaining moisture and thereby stimulates the follicles for faster hair growth.
