It helps in healing wounds and can also be used for treating dry skin diseases. Hence, comfrey ointment is a versatile product that you need in your medicine cabinet.
Here Is How You Can Easily Make Comfrey Ointment At Home:
Ingredients You Will Need
To make the comfrey ointment, you will need two cups of fresh comfrey leaves or one cup of dried comfrey leaves, two cups of olive, sunflower or coconut oil and ½ to 2/3-cup of grated beeswax.
To make a stronger pain relief salve, add ½-cup of comfrey root to the recipe. If you want to use the homemade comfrey ointment for treating swelling and pain caused by insect bite, add ¼ cup of dried plantain leaves or ½-cup of fresh plantain leaves to the ointment. You can also add 20 to 25 drops of rosemary essential oil to the herbal ointment. Rosemary essential oil acts as a preservative and helps in increasing the shelf life of the comfrey ointment.
Make Comfrey Infused Oil
You can prepare comfrey infused oil in two ways. The first method involves simmering the herbs in the oil. Put the herbs in a pot and pour the oil over the pot and simmer on low heat using a double boiler for 30 minutes. Cover the pot and keep it aside for 24 to 48 hours. The second method requires about two to three weeks for preparing the oil. Instead of simmering the herbs, keep the pot containing the herbs and the oil aside for about 2 to 3 weeks. This helps the comfrey compounds to seep into the oil.
Strain the infused oil and pour it in a small pot. Add the beeswax to the infused oil. On low heat melt the beeswax. Stir to combine the melted beeswax with the herbal oil.
Add Essential Oil
After removing the mixture from the heat, add the essential oil. Preserve the comfrey ointment in an air tight container.
